Six Georgia Communities Selected for State Housing Program (12/5/2016)
ATLANTA (December 5, 2016) – Six Georgia communities have been newly selected to receive assistance with their housing needs through the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), a public-private initiative that helps communities strategically grow their economies through housing-related solutions. Bartow County and the Cities of Commerce, Dublin, Fairburn, Warrenton and Union City will begin the three-year program in February.
DCA awards $20.5 million in Housing Tax Credits (11/14/2016)
Atlanta, GA (November 14, 2016) –The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today it will award $20.5 million federal housing tax credits to construct or rehabilitate 25 affordable rental housing properties located throughout the state. The developments include affordable housing for working families, housing for Georgia seniors and housing for persons with disabilities, and were selected from 79 applications in the annual competition.
DCA Announces 2017 CDBG Applicants’ Workshop (10/28/2016)
Atlanta, GA (October 28, 2016) – The Office of Community Development for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced its 2017 Community Development Block Grant Applicants’ Workshop, which will take place in Macon in December. The workshop will be held December 7-9, 2016, at the Marriott Macon City Center, 240 Coliseum Drive, Macon, Georgia 31217. DCA anticipates a CDBG application submission deadline of April 1, 2017.
DCA Fall Conference Update: New Session on Disaster Recovery for Coastal Georgia (10/27/2016)
Atlanta, GA (October 27, 2016) – The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has added a new session to its rescheduled Fall Conference that will focus on Disaster Recovery for the Coast in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. The session will be held between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 and will include several DCA staff that will be available to provide information about DCA’s programs and hear about local concerns as a result of the storm. DCA to co-sponsor Atlanta Affordable Housing Preservation Challenge (10/17/2016)
Atlanta, GA (October 17, 2016) – The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is co-sponsoring a competition to foster creative solutions to today’s housing needs. Organized in conjunction with Georgia ACT and Enterprise Community Partners, and sponsored by the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, the Preservation Challenge is an idea competition to generate innovative, implementable proposals that will help preserve affordable housing in the Atlanta region and throughout Georgia’s urban centers.

Atlanta, GA (October 13, 2016) – The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Fall Conference and CDBG Workshop has been rescheduled for November 1-2, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Savannah, 2 West Bay Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401. The agenda will remain the same, with sessions and events originally scheduled for Thursday, October 6, now taking place on Tuesday, November 1. Events set for Friday, October 7, will take place on Wednesday, November 2, including the ceremony to present the “big check” awards to grant recipients. DCA to host Community Planning Institute: Conference scheduled November 17-18, 2016 on Jekyll Island (10/13/2016)
Atlanta, GA (October 13, 2016) – The Office of Planning and Environmental Management for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has announced its next Community Planning Institute, which will take place at Jekyll Island in November. The workshop, which is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, November 17-18, 2016, at the Villas by the Sea Conference Center on Jekyll Island, will offer two separate courses for attendees: (1) Preparing and Implementing Your Comprehensive Plan, and (2) Managing Your Water Resources.

Governor Deal announces $37.7 million in community development awards to 74 Georgia communities (9/6/2016)
Governor Nathan Deal has announced that 74 Georgia communities will receive a total of $37.7 million in assistance to grow their local economies. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the funding to Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is administered by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

Gov. Nathan Deal announced today $3,772,221 in AmeriCorps grants and education scholarships for Georgia from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) for 481 AmeriCorps members serving in 19 nonprofit and public agencies.
Georgia DCA awards $6.2 million in 16 community home investment grants (5/31/2016)
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) has awarded more than $6.2 million in grants to 16 community entities across the state to build new single family homes and help homeowners rehabilitate their homes. Grant amounts range from $160,140 to $612,000. The awards were made through the 2016 Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP).
Town of Thunderbolt designated as Georgia’s twenty-ninth WaterFirst® Community (3/10/2016)
At a ceremony filled with Thunderbolt’s team Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Community Development Division Director Rusty Haygood announced the designation of the state’s twenty-ninth WaterFirst Community. Many community leaders and local and state officials were in attendance at the ceremony held March 9 at the Thunderbolt City Council meeting.
DCA to host Community Planning Institute March 11-12 in Helen (2/17/2016)

Georgia Department of Community Affairs to accept applications for Housing Choice Voucher wait list Feb. 1 - 7 (1/15/2016)
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today that the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, or Section 8, waiting list preliminary application period will be open Feb. 1-7 through an online system.
The voucher program provides a rental subsidy to assist extremely low and low-income individuals and families in renting safe, decent and affordable housing in the private rental market throughout DCA’s jurisdiction of 149 counties in Georgia. The subsidy is given to eligible families who are selected from the wait list. Eligibility for the program is based on several factors including the family’s income and eligible citizenship status.
